Braves Host Rockies at Truist Park in Sunday Afternoon Showdown

Atlanta brings an 81-55 record into Sunday's 1:35 PM ET matinee against a Colorado club that has dropped to 52-84 on the season. The gap between these two franchises right now is as wide as it gets in baseball.

Tyler Mahle is expected to take the mound for the Braves against a Rockies lineup that has been one of the worst in the National League all year. Mason Adams is set to start for Colorado, stepping into a road environment at Truist Park that figures to be unforgiving. Atlanta's 26-game advantage in the standings tells you everything about the trajectory of these two organizations in 2026, and Sunday's matchup does little to obscure that reality.

The player to watch on Atlanta's side is Matt Olson, who leads the Braves with 37 home runs and 78 RBI — numbers that put him squarely in the middle of any MVP conversation. Michael Harris II is hitting .296, giving Atlanta a legitimate on-base threat at the top of the order to set the table for Olson's power. This lineup has the kind of top-to-bottom construction that can punish a pitcher the moment command wavers.

For Colorado, Hunter Goodman has been a genuine bright spot in an otherwise difficult season — 36 home runs and 73 RBI from a Rockies hitter is a number worth respecting regardless of context. Jake McCarthy's .290 average gives the Rockies at least one reliable contact bat to build around. The problem is that individual production doesn't paper over a 52-84 record, and road games against elite opponents have a way of exposing thin rosters quickly. Our model doesn't have a validated read on this one, so we're not going to manufacture a lean where the data doesn't support one. What we can say plainly: the structural mismatch here is significant, and Colorado will need Goodman to be at his best — and then some — to keep this one competitive into the late innings.
