Wizards Add Tre Mann, Close the Books on a Busy Offseason
Washington sent Cam Whitmore to the Clippers on Wednesday for Mann, a 2027 second-round pick, and cash — a relatively quiet transaction that nonetheless puts a cap on one of the more aggressive offseason rebuilds this franchise has attempted in years.
The shape of the roster is now clear. Trae Young runs the offense under a four-year, $212 million commitment. AJ Dybantsa arrives as the No. 1 pick. Deandre Ayton provides the rim presence Young has always needed. Khris Middleton adds playoff miles on the wing. Mann slots in as another guard who can handle the ball and create off the perimeter, giving the coaching staff options when Young sits.
What the Wizards don't have yet is a track record of closing games. Last season's 17–65 finish was defined as much by late-game failures as anything else — Washington won only 36% of games decided by five points or fewer, a number that no amount of roster shuffling automatically corrects. The pieces are better. Whether the habits follow is the only question that matters when Milwaukee comes to Capital One Arena on October 21.
