Wills Is the Starter. The Question Now Is What's Behind Him.
Paris Johnson Jr. is on injured reserve with a biceps tear, Jedrick Wills has the left tackle job, and I've written both of those sentences already. What hasn't been fully accounted for is the depth picture that sits behind Wills — which is to say, not much. Isaiah Adams remains out, Chase Bisontis tore his MCL in preseason, and the offensive line has absorbed enough attrition that the margin for another injury at tackle is essentially gone.
Wills is a known commodity. He was a top-ten pick not long ago and has started meaningful games in this league. Whether he's the same player who came out of Alabama is a fair question, but he's a starter-caliber option in a way that most backup tackles simply aren't. Arizona could have been left in a worse spot.
The issue is that the Cardinals built their offseason around protecting the receiving core — the Wilson extension, the McBride continuity, the Froholdt deal at center. All of that assumes the pocket holds. With Adams out and no tested depth behind Wills, that assumption is carrying more weight than it probably should.
