Williams Is Questionable, and Behind Him the Depth Chart Gets Thin Fast
Leonard Williams is on the injury report as questionable, and the timing is not great. The depth chart at defensive end lists Derick Hall at the top, with Mike Morris and Connor O'Toole behind him — workable on paper, but none of them are Williams, who has been one of the anchors of this defensive front all season. The analyst piece three days ago was titled "Williams Dodged the Bullet. The Defensive Line Didn't." — that framing is looking more accurate by the day.
What makes this worth watching is that the line has already been managing without full health elsewhere. Brandon Pili is active, and Deven Eastern has been back since his PUP activation in camp, so the interior is not bare. But the edge is a different conversation. Hall is a legitimate starter — the team extended him on a three-year, $42 million deal, which tells you what they think of him — but asking him to carry more of the load if Williams misses time is a real ask.
Zach Charbonnet is still out on the offensive side, Smith-Njigba didn't practice Wednesday, and now Williams is questionable. Seattle has been absorbing these things one at a time, but they are starting to stack. My read is the next few days of practice reports matter more than usual — if Williams is limited again Thursday, that changes how you think about the defensive game plan this week.
