Tracy to IR, and Now Singletary Is the Plan
Tyrone Tracy Jr. is on injured reserve with a hamstring injury, the Giants confirmed Tuesday. He had 86 rushing yards and a pair of touchdowns across nine games this season — a modest but real contributor in a backfield that was already running thin.
The situation at running back is now Cam Skattebo and Devin Singletary, with Skattebo's own hamstring still a question mark after he felt something late in the Texans game. Gregory Desrosiers was signed to fill the roster spot. The Giants are not expected to pursue a significant trade at the deadline, per reporting Wednesday — meaning Singletary, who has 123 rushing yards and two touchdowns in six games, steps into a larger role whether the workload suits him or not.
Two weeks ago I wrote that the backfield had no margin left when Skattebo's hamstring first came up. Tracy going down now confirms it. The Giants are 5-2-1 and leading the NFC East with nine games remaining, which is a genuinely good position to be in. But they are getting there with a running game that keeps losing pieces, and Singletary carrying the load behind a questionable Skattebo is a thinner answer than anyone drew up in August.
