Tidwell Is Done, and the Rotation Depth Chart Is Running Out of Names
I already wrote this one yesterday, and here it is again: Blade Tidwell is on the 60-day IL with a UCL sprain, his season finished. Worth noting a second time because the context has shifted slightly — the workload spike that preceded the injury was real and significant. Over his final five appearances, Tidwell was being used at roughly double his earlier pace, innings climbing from around 1.5 to 3.1 per outing. Whether that contributed to the UCL issue isn't something I can say, but the sequence is worth remembering when the front office does its winter review.
The broader picture is what it is. Logan Webb is also on the IL. Trevor McDonald, Carson Whisenhunt, Hayden Birdsong — all unavailable. The active rotation is Landen Roupp, Adrian Houser, and Tyler Mahle, with 33 games left and the Giants already eliminated. Robbie Ray, the one arm who had a genuinely good season here, was traded to San Diego at the deadline.
There's nothing to manage toward at this point except getting through September without adding more names to an already long injury list. That's a low bar, and the Giants have been clearing it inconsistently.
