The Roster Is Built. Now Comes the Hard Part.

Pat Riley spent the summer tearing down one team and assembling another. The trade for Giannis Antetokounmpo, the Klay Thompson buyout, the Andrew Wiggins extension, the Nick Richards signing, the Pelle Larsson extension — it's done. The offseason gamble is closed. What's left is figuring out whether it works.

The supporting cast around Giannis and Bam Adebayo has real shape to it. Thompson and Tim Hardaway Jr. address the perimeter spacing that was a visible problem. Davion Mitchell, who ran the offense as well as anyone on this roster last season, gives them a real playmaker at the point. Larsson, now locked in for four years, showed last season he can move the ball and keep defenses honest. On paper, the pieces fit around two franchise cornerstones.

The open questions are the ones I've been noting since camp opened. Both Giannis and Adebayo remain day-to-day — routine for this time of year, but worth watching given how much this roster depends on both of them being healthy and functional together. The front office is also thinner than it was; Eric Amsler is in Los Angeles now, and that kind of institutional knowledge doesn't just get backfilled. Someone is managing this transition with less depth than the organization had a month ago.

Miami went 4–6 to close last season and got run off the floor defensively down the stretch. The rebuild was the right call. Whether it was the right rebuild is a question that won't get answered until sometime in January.
