The DT Rotation Question Didn't Get Answered This Offseason
The 53-man roster is set, the Quinn Ewers trade is done, and Jacksonville's defensive tackle situation looks essentially the same as it did in August: DaVon Hamilton is the one DT who logged meaningful snaps last season, and Ruke Orhorhoro and Albert Regis are depth options who haven't established themselves at this level. The front office addressed the offensive line, the quarterback room, and the tight end extension. The interior defensive line did not get that kind of attention.
That's not a crisis yet. Hamilton is a legitimate starter, and plenty of teams carry thin DT rotations into September. But I noted this gap back on August 27, and nothing in the final roster moves changed the underlying math. If Hamilton misses time, Jacksonville is asking unproven players to hold the middle against AFC South run games that will test them early.
The roster construction this summer was clearly Lawrence-first — protect the quarterback, extend the weapons, add a backup who can function. That's a defensible priority order. My read is the DT situation gets managed quietly as long as Hamilton stays healthy, and becomes a genuine problem the moment he doesn't.
