The Cornerback Shuffle Continues, and the Answers Are Still Thin

The Colts made another move at cornerback on Wednesday, cutting a former starter who had been struggling through the preseason. It was, as the team acknowledged, an unsurprising decision. That doesn't make the position any less unsettled heading into Week 1.

The depth chart lists Mekhi Blackmon, Justin Walley, and Mekhi Rodgers at corner. Cam Taylor-Britt, suspended for the opener under the personal-conduct policy, won't be available for the first game regardless. That's a lot of names without much proven production behind them, and the moves of the last few weeks haven't changed that math in any meaningful way.

The offense has been the story of this camp — Pierce activated off the PUP list, Allen signed and settled in, Taylor locked up long-term. The secondary has mostly just generated roster churn. At some point the two halves of this team have to play in the same game, and right now one half looks considerably more ready than the other.
