The Champagnie Meet-and-Greet Is Tomorrow. The Stevens Replacement Is Still Nowhere.

San Antonio announced that Julian Champagnie will host a fan meet-and-greet, which is a fine thing. The front office remains silent on who is handling grassroots scouting, which is less fine. I've been writing versions of this note since mid-August, and the answer hasn't changed.

Training camp is imminent. Charlie Stevens took the UConn general manager job, left his role as the Spurs' director of grassroots scouting, and San Antonio has not publicly named anyone stepping into that function. That's the whole story, and it keeps being the story.

My read is that this probably gets resolved quietly — an internal promotion, a reassignment, something that never generates a press release. But quietly resolved and unresolved are different things, and right now it's still the latter.
