The Cardinals Still Don't Have a Running Back Answer for Week 2
Jeremiyah Love's ankle has not gotten better fast enough. The No. 3 overall pick has been managing the high-ankle sprain he suffered in the preseason since August, and heading into Week 2 the situation remains unresolved — which, at this point, is its own kind of answer about where things stand.
The depth chart behind Love tells the rest of the story. Tavien Feaster and Tyler Allgeier are the names listed, neither of whom has logged meaningful snaps at this level. James Conner is on injured reserve. Trey Benson was waived before the season. Corey Kiner was traded to New England. The Cardinals stripped the position down to Love and then Love got hurt, and now they are heading into a second consecutive week without a reliable option in the backfield.
This is not a new problem — it is the same one that produced a ground game running at roughly a third of league-average output last season. The organization knew the position needed a successor to Conner, drafted one in the top three, and is now watching that plan sit in the training room. Allgeier is active, which is something. It is not much.
