Tennessee Upset Indianapolis. Indianapolis Fired Its GM.
The Titans went into Indianapolis on Sunday as a 1-5 team and came out having cost Chris Ballard his job. The Colts fired their general manager the day after the loss, ending a tenure that stretched nearly a decade. Whatever the internal calculus in Indianapolis, the timing is what it is: a once-winless Tennessee team walked into their building and won.
For the Titans, it's a strange kind of footnote. They're still 1-5, still three games back of the wild card with 11 to play, still a team that has lost five of six this season. Tony Pollard leads the backfield with 383 rushing yards and a pair of touchdowns, and Carnell Tate has been Ward's most reliable target through eight games. The offense has shown enough to suggest the pieces are there. The record says something else.
The Colts' situation is their own to sort out. But it's worth noting, from the Tennessee side, that this is the second time in six weeks this team has produced a result that mattered beyond the box score — Week 1 over the Jets, now this. Neither win has moved the standings much. Both have been real.
Week 7 is Cleveland, and there's injury news on both sides heading in. That's the next thing.
