Tampa Bay Gets the Win, Winfield Is Still Watching From the Sideline
The Buccaneers beat Dallas 24–16 on Thursday Night Football, and somewhere in that result is a reason to feel better about the next few weeks. Baker Mayfield, listed out as recently as Wednesday, apparently found a way back onto the field — the win is logged, the offense moved the ball, and Jason Licht picked up his 100th win as general manager in the process. A good night by most measures.
The injury ledger, though, didn't get any shorter. Antoine Winfield Jr. remains out with the rib fracture that's kept him sidelined since early October, and DeMonte Capehart and Benjamin Morrison are still unavailable behind him. The secondary that held Dallas was doing so without its best player, and that's worth noting before anyone declares the defense fixed. Winfield's two-to-four week window opened around October 5th, so his return is at least plausible in the near term — but it's not guaranteed, and the Buccaneers have learned this season not to count on timelines holding.
The offseason investment was always about keeping the core together long enough to compete. One win over a Cowboys team that lost CeeDee Lamb during the game doesn't resolve the larger question. The pieces are still fragile. Worth watching the next two weeks to see if Winfield gets back and whether this team can string anything together with Mayfield healthy.
