Suggs' Knee Buckled Sunday Night, and Now Orlando Has Two Problems at Once
Jalen Suggs had to be helped off the floor late in the fourth quarter at Madison Square Garden on Sunday after his right knee buckled as he went up for a layup. No diagnosis has come out yet, but the image was not a good one.
The timing is rough. Forty-eight hours earlier, Paolo Banchero was confirmed out multiple weeks with a low-grade high ankle sprain — a story I covered Saturday. Banchero is the top name in Orlando's forward rotation. Suggs is the top name in the guard rotation. Losing both in the same weekend is not a depth problem, it's a personnel emergency.
What's left is workable but thin. Desmond Bane is next in line at guard, with Jase Richardson behind him. Franz Wagner and Tristan da Silva hold the forward spots while Banchero sits. Those are real players. They are also being asked to carry more than they were built to carry this early in the season.
The Suggs situation is still developing — severity unknown, timeline unknown. That's the piece that matters most right now, and Orlando won't have a clear answer until the imaging comes back.
