Still No Answer on Leonard
The investigation is where it's been. The NBA is still working through whether the Clippers used endorsement arrangements to circumvent salary-cap rules in the Kawhi Leonard deal, and Commissioner Silver has said he expects resolution before the regular season. That's the whole update. Toronto's camp is running, the roster is practicing, and the franchise centerpiece may or may not be a Raptor when it matters.
I've been noting this situation since before camp opened, and the holding pattern is the story now as much as the uncertainty itself. The Raptors gave up Brandon Ingram — 20.7 points a game last season — plus Gradey Dick and two unprotected first-round picks to land Leonard. That is a complete organizational bet. Scottie Barnes, Immanuel Quickley, and RJ Barrett form a real secondary core, but none of them were acquired to be the primary option. The whole construction assumes Leonard is in the building.
If the trade gets voided, Toronto is left with a hollowed roster, no Ingram, no picks in 2031 or 2032, and a coaching staff that was extended specifically to work with a star it may not have. Silver's timeline is the only one that matters right now, and it hasn't moved.
