Smith gets his Pro Bowl nod, and the Eagles head into the offseason looking like themselves
DeVonta Smith is drawing first-time Pro Bowl consideration this offseason, and the number backs it up: 85 catches for 1,078 yards and 4 touchdowns across 18 games. He's been one of the more quietly consistent receivers in the NFC for a few years now — the Biletnikoff winner out of Alabama, the guy who proved the weight concerns wrong immediately — and this looks like the season the league is formally catching up to what Philadelphia has watched for a while.
The Eagles finished 11-6, which is a solid season without being a dominant one. Point differential was plus-3.18 per game, and the offense had real contributors across the board — Saquon Barkley over 1,200 rushing yards, Dallas Goedert with 12 touchdown catches, A.J. Brown just over 1,000 yards alongside Smith. Jalen Hurts threw for 26 touchdowns against 6 interceptions. This is a functioning, veteran core.
Zack Baun also drew notice this week, with coaches and executives around the league putting him in the top-10 linebacker conversation for the second straight year. That's two players on the same side of the ball getting recognized in the same offseason cycle, which says something about where this roster stands heading into the summer.
Nothing dramatic to report here. The Eagles have their quarterback, their skill players are healthy and accounted for, and one of their best receivers just got a nod that was probably overdue. Quiet offseason so far, which for a contender is usually fine.
