Shanahan Passes Walsh on the 49ers' All-Time Wins List

Kyle Shanahan recorded his 167th franchise victory as San Francisco's head coach, moving him past Bill Walsh for the most wins in 49ers history. Walsh, who built the dynasty that produced five Super Bowl championships across the 1980s and early 1990s, had long stood as the standard against which every San Francisco coach was measured.

Shanahan took over a franchise that had bottomed out and has rebuilt it into a consistent NFC contender. The 49ers finished 12–5 last season, reaching the playoffs before a first-round loss to Seattle. The milestone arrives during a stretch when the organization is navigating significant roster turbulence — injuries across the depth chart, an unresolved situation at receiver — but the win total itself reflects a sustained run of competitive football under his direction.

Walsh's shadow over this franchise has always been long. Surpassing him in wins does not equate to matching his legacy, but it is a factual marker of how long and how successfully Shanahan has kept San Francisco relevant in a difficult division.
