Seattle Signs Joe Mixon, and the Backfield Rebuild Gets Serious
The Seahawks have added veteran running back Joe Mixon, a direct response to a backfield that has been thinning out since training camp. I wrote last week that Price going to injured reserve left this room running on fumes — Mixon is the organization's answer to that.
Charbonnet is still listed as out, and the current depth chart at the position has been held together largely by Brady Russell, Emanuel Wilson, and George Holani. That's a serviceable group for a week, not a plan for a defending champion. Mixon gives them a known commodity — a back with years of featured-role experience who can absorb a real workload if needed.
The signing is notable for what it signals as much as what it provides. Kenneth Walker III carried this ground game through the championship run, but Seattle clearly isn't comfortable leaning on him alone while the rest of the room sorts itself out. Mixon is insurance, and fairly expensive insurance at that — you don't go outside the building for a veteran of his profile unless the internal options genuinely concern you.
