Seattle Sends Wright to Nashville, Gets Matthew Wood Back
The Kraken traded Shane Wright to Nashville on Sunday for forward Matthew Wood, a swap of depth pieces that lands at an uncomfortable moment. Jared McCann has been out long-term with a lower-body injury since late October, and as I noted when that news broke, Eduard Sale and Lleyton Roed are essentially the only names behind him at left wing — both with nothing on the board production-wise so far this season. Moving Wright out doesn't directly address that hole, but it does narrow the forward group at a time when Seattle can't really afford to be thin anywhere up front.
Matthew Wood comes in as the return, and what Seattle does with him roster-wise remains to be seen. Wright was a former first-overall pick who never quite locked in a consistent role here, so the organization clearly decided this was the right time to move on. Whether Wood fits the left wing need is a separate question — and my read is that this trade alone doesn't solve it.
The left wing situation is still the thing to watch. Sale and Roed are the options right now, and neither has registered meaningful production. That's a problem that a depth swap doesn't fix.
