Rutherford Earns a Penguins Hall of Fame Spot While Guiding Vancouver's Rebuild
Jim Rutherford, the Canucks' senior adviser, will be inducted into the Pittsburgh Penguins Hall of Fame as part of the Class of 2026. The recognition is rooted in his tenure in Pittsburgh, where he helped build championship-caliber rosters, but it lands while he is in the middle of a very different assignment in Vancouver.
The Canucks finished 2025–26 at 25–57, one of the franchise's worst seasons on record. The front office that emerged from that collapse looks considerably different: Ryan Johnson was named general manager, the Sedins came on as co-presidents, and Cammi Granato moved from assistant GM to a senior adviser role. Rutherford sits within that restructured leadership group, bringing a track record of organizational rebuilds to a franchise that badly needs one.
The Penguins honor is a footnote to the offseason's actual work, not a headline in itself. But it's a reminder of the résumé Vancouver is drawing on as it tries to turn a 25-win season into something more sustainable.
