Rozier's Cloud May Lift. The Rest of Miami's List Doesn't.
Terry Rozier revealing text messages he believes will clear him of four federal counts is, at minimum, a development worth watching — and for Miami, potentially good news. I wrote yesterday that the case was a problem for the Heat regardless of outcome. That's still true until it isn't. But if the evidence holds up and the legal situation resolves cleanly, it removes one item from a crowded ledger of things that could go wrong before training camp opens.
The ledger remains crowded. Both Giannis Antetokounmpo and Bam Adebayo are listed day-to-day, which is routine summer management until it isn't. The Adebayo-Herro altercation in Las Vegas hasn't fully dissolved into the background. LeBron is now in Philadelphia, not Miami, which means the East just got harder. The supporting cast — Davion Mitchell, Pelle Larsson, Andrew Wiggins — is functional but thin for a team that went 18-25 on the road last season and allowed nearly 129 points a game in its final 10.
The Rozier news is the one thing this week that moved in Miami's direction. That's worth noting. It's also worth keeping in proportion.
