Robinson Is Back Active, and Wearing a Guardian Cap to Stay That Way
Chop Robinson is back on the active list after missing the San Francisco game in concussion protocol. He's also, per the angle here, going to be wearing a Guardian Cap going forward — a soft-shell helmet add-on the league has increasingly associated with players managing repeated head trauma. Five documented concussions is the number attached to Robinson's history. The cap doesn't prevent concussions, but it reduces the rotational forces that make them more likely. Miami isn't saying much about it. They don't have to.
The subtext is plain enough. Robinson sits third on the depth chart at defensive end behind Malik Herring and Andre Jones, but I've been watching this defense all year and the edge rotation is thin in a way the depth chart doesn't fully capture. When Robinson missed San Francisco, that margin got exposed. Getting him back matters. Keeping him available matters more.
The Guardian Cap is a small, specific thing. It's also the organization quietly acknowledging that they cannot keep absorbing this particular absence.
