Rempe Still Sidelined as Camp Approaches

Matt Rempe remains on injured reserve with training camp around the corner, and the Rangers still haven't offered a timeline. That's been the status for weeks now, and it hasn't changed.

It matters because Rempe is a specific kind of player — the physical, agitating forward presence that doesn't get replaced by a depth signing or a late-round prospect. The front office has done real work this summer rebuilding the forward group around Panarin, adding Pavel Dorofeyev from Vegas, signing Vincent Iorio, bringing in the former Canadiens forward. The roster is fuller than it was in April. But none of those moves fill the role Rempe occupies when healthy, and his ice time was already shrinking at the end of last season before he went down.

Taylor Raddysh getting more minutes down the stretch was an encouraging sign, and Alberts Šmits is in the system now on his entry-level deal. The organization is clearly investing in internal development alongside the external additions. Still, those are longer-term bets. Rempe's situation is the more immediate one — whether he's available for opening night or whether this team starts 2026-27 without the one forward who changes the physical temperature of a game just by being on the ice.

No update is itself an update at this point. Camp will tell us more.
