Portland Hires and Fires Broadcaster Braiden Bell on the Same Day

The Trail Blazers added an unwanted footnote to an already turbulent offseason on October 2, hiring and then dismissing play-by-play announcer Braiden Bell within hours after the organization was made aware of racist and misogynistic social media posts Bell had made as a teenager. The move was swift and unambiguous.

The episode is a minor personnel matter in the broader scheme of roster construction, but the timing adds another layer of noise to a franchise already managing a major trade, a string of injuries, and unresolved questions heading into training camp. Portland acted quickly once the posts surfaced, and the decision was not complicated.
