Pierce is on IR, Barkley missed Wednesday, and Jaydon Blue is now the depth chart
Dameon Pierce went to injured reserve Wednesday, one day after Saquon Barkley limped out of Monday night's loss to Dallas with another hamstring issue. Barkley missed Wednesday's practice. The Eagles signed Jaydon Blue to the active roster, and per the depth chart, he is currently the only running back listed there.
This is the third time in recent weeks I've had to note that the backfield got thinner. Barkley's situation is the one that matters most — his immediate availability is genuinely uncertain, and the coverage around him after Monday used words like "banged up" and "uncertain future." That's not the language you want attached to your best offensive player when the team is 2-5 and losing by nearly seven points a game.
Will Shipley and Tank Bigsby have carried the load in stretches this season, but neither is listed in the current depth chart, and neither appears in the active injury report as available. Blue is the name on the board right now. With 10 games left and an elimination number of 9, Philadelphia needs its offense to function. At the moment, the backfield is one more setback from being a genuine problem at the position, not just a depth concern.
