Pelicans Send Hawkins, Peavy, and Two Picks to Memphis in Four-Player Deal
The Grizzlies added a pair of young wings on Tuesday, acquiring Jordan Hawkins and Micah Peavy from New Orleans along with a future second-round pick and a future second-round pick swap. Memphis sent AJ Johnson and at least one other player back to the Pelicans, who were looking to clear cap room.
Hawkins is a former first-round pick with shooting range — the kind of perimeter piece Memphis has been hunting since the backcourt started emptying out this summer. Peavy adds another young forward to a roster that has been collecting them all offseason. Neither is a cornerstone, but both fit the age profile of what this front office is building around Jaren Jackson Jr.
The deal keeps the roster-building moving, which is about all you can say for it right now. New Orleans wanted cap relief; Memphis wanted bodies and picks. Both sides got what they needed. Whether Hawkins can carve out a real role alongside Cam Spencer and Jaylen Wells is a question for training camp, not September.
