Packers bring back Castles, add Biber — the tight end room keeps growing
Green Bay waived Luke Lachey and RJ Maryland on August 4 to make room for McCallan Castles and Drew Biber, two tight ends added the same day. Castles is a re-sign — the Packers released him before the draft and are now bringing him back. Biber is a new addition. That's two tight ends in, two roster spots cleared to get them there.
As I noted two days ago, Tucker Kraft was activated off the PUP list on July 31, less than nine months out from an ACL tear. His status is still Questionable, and Luke Musgrave is currently listed as Out. So the room has real uncertainty behind Kraft, and the front office is clearly not comfortable leaving it thin.
The additions of Castles and Biber look like straightforward depth insurance given where the position stands right now. Whether either sticks past final cuts is a different question. For now, Green Bay has more tight ends on the roster than they had a week ago, and they gave up two spots to get them.
