Osuna gets the call as Texas patches a thin roster down the stretch
Alejandro Osuna has been recalled, giving the Rangers another body in a September that has required a lot of creative roster management. Texas sits 71-72, first in the AL West with 19 games left, and the depth chart has been stretched by eight players on the injured list — several of them on the 60-day.
Osuna is a useful piece here. The depth chart shows him listed at center field, left field, and right field, which is exactly the kind of flexibility a short-handed club needs in September. With Peyton Gray and Cole Winn both on the IL, the bullpen has also been leaning on options that weren't part of the original plan, so having an athletic outfielder who can cover ground and keep the bench from going completely bare matters more than it might in a normal month.
The bigger picture hasn't changed since I wrote about Jung and Eovaldi returning: those two coming back stabilized the lineup and the rotation, and the Rangers have gone 5-5 over their last ten with a two-game winning streak going into this week. That's not a surge, but it's functional. Osuna's recall is less about adding a weapon and more about making sure the club can get through 19 games without running out of usable arms and legs.
