Ostlund Moves to Day-to-Day; Danforth and Kulich Stay Put
Noah Ostlund is no longer on injured reserve. He's day-to-day now, which is a small thing, but after two months of nothing from this prospect group it registers. The cluster that's defined Buffalo's offseason — Ostlund, Justin Danforth, Jiri Kulich, all sidelined since mid-July — has at least partially shifted.
Danforth and Kulich haven't moved. Both remain on injured reserve with the September 15 extension deadline three days out, and that's the part that matters for the front office. The deadline applies to all three, and two of them still can't be evaluated in any meaningful way. Buffalo committed long-term to Peyton Krebs and Zach Benson earlier this offseason with reasonable clarity on what those players are. These three are a different conversation.
Ostlund's status change doesn't resolve anything on its own. Day-to-day means he's closer, not available. Whether that's enough information for the organization to make an eight-year commitment on him before Sunday is a separate question — and my read is that it probably isn't, unless the front office already has a strong enough internal read on his trajectory to move without seeing him skate at full health. That's possible. It's just not what the last two months have looked like from the outside.
The deadline will come and go regardless. What happens with Danforth and Kulich between now and then is the story.
