Orlando Loses Banchero and Suggs in the Same Week
Paolo Banchero is out multiple weeks with a low-grade high ankle sprain. Jalen Suggs is awaiting a re-evaluation in two weeks on a bone bruise in his right knee. Both injuries landed inside a 72-hour window, and the Magic are now without their top forward and their second guard simultaneously to open the season.
The depth chart absorbs some of this. Franz Wagner steps into a larger role at forward, and Tristan da Silva gets real minutes behind him. At guard, Anthony Black moves up with Desmond Bane already carrying the position. The pieces exist. Whether they hold together against a full schedule is a different question.
What makes the timing harder is that neither injury has a firm return date attached to it. Banchero's 4-to-6-week range for the ankle is an estimate, not a guarantee. Suggs' bone bruise gets looked at again in two weeks, and that evaluation will tell Orlando a lot about what the next month actually looks like. Until then, the Magic are managing around two open questions at once.
