Onyemata Heads to Surgery, and the Jets' Front Four Takes Another Hit
David Onyemata is headed for core-muscle surgery, sidelining the Jets' starting defensive tackle and adding another name to an injury list that has been growing since August. The timing is rough. New York's defensive line depth — Kingsley Enagbare, T'Vondre Sweat, Payton Page, and Darrell Jackson behind him — now has to absorb the workload of a starter, weeks into a season the organization cannot afford to stumble through.
The angle here is less about Onyemata specifically and more about the pattern. This Jets reset was sold as a structural fix — new quarterback, new secondary, new identity. What it has become, game by game, is a roster management exercise. Stiggers collapsed in August and only recently returned to active status. Marcelino McCrary-Ball is on injured reserve. Minkah Fitzpatrick has been in and out of the lineup as questionable. Now the interior of the defensive line loses its anchor.
The depth chart shows T'Vondre Sweat as the next man up at DL, with Page and Jackson holding down the DT spots. Whether that group can hold up against starting-caliber interior runs is the practical question for the next few weeks. My read is that it probably can manage — the names are there — but managing and thriving are different things, and Aaron Glenn does not have much margin for the former right now.
