One of the Depth Signings Just Took Off for Europe
The prospect the Flyers added on August 21 as injury insurance is gone. He signed overseas this week, ending his NHL pursuit after a run of injury-plagued seasons that wore down whatever organizational patience remained. It's a quiet exit — the kind that barely registers as news — but the timing is bad. Philadelphia is still carrying three forwards on the injury list heading into camp, and one of the bodies they brought in specifically to absorb that uncertainty just isn't there anymore.
Ty Murchison remains the only injury formally listed in the last three weeks, but Cates and Tippett haven't been cleared either, and nothing has changed on that front since I wrote about it in mid-August. The Flyers still have Nolan Foote, signed six days before this latest departure, and the prospect who got a contract extension on August 19 is still in the mix. But the cushion is thinner now than it was last week, and it wasn't thick to begin with.
The front office built this offseason around locking in the core — Zegras, Vladar, Drysdale — and that work is done. The depth layer underneath it is what's fraying. One prospect gone overseas, three forwards still not skating, Michkov's contract still unresolved. Camp is close.
