Nothing has changed, and that is now the update
Five pieces into this story, the update is that there is no update. Giddey and Claxton remain day-to-day, training camp is close enough that the calendar has stopped being abstract, and the injury designations that first appeared during summer league in late July have simply never gone away. At some point the persistence of a thing becomes its own fact.
The part worth keeping in mind is what these two players were supposed to represent. Claxton was acquired to give Chicago a mobile, switchable center alongside Vucevic — a pairing built for the kind of tight, half-court possessions the Bulls actually won last season. Giddey, who averaged 8.9 assists a game in 2025–26, is the engine that makes the offense move. Neither being available at full health when camp opens is not a minor administrative footnote. It is the central question of whether this retooled roster gets any runway at all before the regular season forces answers.
The current injury report shows nothing filed in the last three weeks, which could mean the designations quietly resolved or simply that no new information has been made public. I don't know which. What I do know is that a team coming off a 31–52 season, with a rebuilt backcourt and a new center who hasn't yet played a meaningful minute in a Bulls uniform, needs a full training camp more than most. Every day that Giddey and Claxton aren't practicing together is a day that chemistry doesn't develop. Camp won't extend itself to make up the difference.
