No New Details on Porzingis, but the Question Gets Louder Each Day
Already covered the initial news — Porzingis down before a preseason minute was played — so this is just a check-in on where things stand. There's nothing new to report on his status. No updated timeline, no clarification on severity. The silence itself is the update.
What makes that silence uncomfortable is the context. Golden State signed Porzingis to a two-year, $40 million deal specifically to solve the center problem that plagued them last season. He was the answer to the rim protection and floor-spacing question, the piece that was supposed to make the Curry-Green core functional again at the top of the West. Al Horford is here for leadership and shooting, but he's not the same kind of anchor. The Warriors let Quinten Post walk to Memphis in part because Porzingis was supposed to make that an easy call.
Jimmy Butler's ACL recovery already leaves Golden State's timeline uncertain on the wing. Stacking an unknown Porzingis situation on top of that is a lot of question marks for a team that went 39-46 last season and needs to show something early. Training camp is when you install the new pieces. If the centerpiece isn't there for it, that's real time lost.
Nothing here changes the roster construction or the plan. It just makes the margin for error thinner than the front office probably wanted heading into October.
