Naquan Jones Is Back, and the Texans' Defensive Tackle Situation Remains Thin
Houston poached veteran defensive tackle Naquan Jones off San Francisco's practice squad on Monday, bringing him back to a franchise he's played for before. It's a modest move, but the circumstances around it are not.
Kayden McDonald, the second-round pick Houston invested in as part of its defensive rebuild, has been on injured reserve since Week 1 with an ankle injury and isn't coming back this season. That left the interior line running thin enough that Jones — a practice-squad player on another team's roster — became a genuine need. The depth chart at defensive tackle lists Jaden Crumedy and Junior Tafuna, and that's about where it ends.
Jones gives the Texans a warm body with NFL experience, which is more than they had yesterday. Whether he gives them anything beyond that is the real question over the next 10 games.
