Murray Is Cleared, but the Quarterback Room Is Still a Mess
Kyler Murray has cleared concussion protocol and is available for Week 3, which is the first straightforwardly good news this organization has had at the position since before the season started. He went down on his first drive against Green Bay — an interception on his opening throw, then a hard hit while sliding — and has been out since. Carson Wentz stepped in, started in Chicago last week, and now presumably slides back to the bench.
The injury report still lists Murray as Out, so the grounding here is worth noting: his return is the angle, but the roster page hasn't caught up yet. What is clear is that the Vikings have now cycled through three quarterbacks in roughly nine days, which I've been tracking since Wentz was handed the job. That kind of churn at the position doesn't just disappear when the starter comes back healthy.
The rest of the situation hasn't changed. Jordan Mason is on injured reserve with the fractured thumb. Aaron Jones Sr. is active and figures to carry the backfield load again. Jefferson and Hockenson are both available, which gives Murray real weapons — I noted as much when Wentz got that same supporting cast last week. The question going forward is whether Murray can stay upright long enough to let any of this stabilize.
