Mitchell adds an Adidas extension to a Cleveland offseason that keeps stacking up
Donovan Mitchell signed a new multi-year contract extension with Adidas on Thursday, a deal that will carry him through a 10th signature shoe. The timing is unremarkable on its own — endorsement renewals happen — but it lands as one more piece of a Cleveland offseason that has been unusually tidy for a team that exited the playoffs in a blowout.
The basketball commitments came first. Mitchell locked in a 4-year, $273 million maximum extension with the Cavaliers in July, then said in late September that the decision required almost no deliberation: "It wasn't really much of a talk." James Harden returned on a 3-year, $97 million deal in August, restoring the 20.4 PPG and 7.1 APG that had briefly walked out the door. Peyton Watson arrived the same day to address the forward depth that Dean Wade's 5.7 PPG last season had left thin.
The Adidas news doesn't change the roster picture, but it does add to a broader portrait of a franchise that has stabilized around its star. Mitchell averaged 27.3 points per game last season over 78 games. The shoe deal suggests he and his partners see Cleveland as a long-term stage, not a waypoint.
