Mims Is Out for Week 2, and Denver's Receiver Room Is Down to Two
Marvin Mims Jr. has been ruled out for Week 2, which moves the receiver depth conversation from concern to concrete problem. Mims caught 49 passes for 477 yards and a pair of touchdowns last season — a real contributor, not a depth piece — and his absence leaves Courtland Sutton and Lil'Jordan Humphrey as the only wideouts who have actually played meaningful snaps for this offense.
I flagged this position as thin by count heading into the week, and that was before Mims went from missing to ruled out. The depth chart shows Nick Williams behind Humphrey, but Williams hasn't logged observed playing time in this offense. Sutton is active and healthy, which matters, but asking him and Humphrey to carry the full receiving load — with RJ Harvey still listed as Questionable — is a lot to ask of a group that was already short.
Troy Franklin is active and gives Nix a third option in the passing game, which helps. But Franklin plays a different role than Mims, and the Broncos don't have a natural replacement for what Mims does as a vertical threat and gadget piece. For one week, Denver can manage. If this stretches into Week 3, the roster math gets genuinely uncomfortable.
