Mayfield Stays Out; Green Bay Is Next

Baker Mayfield is out again for Week 4. The Buccaneers released their final injury report Friday ahead of Sunday's game against the Packers, and the quarterback's dislocated right thumb keeps him sidelined for a second consecutive week. Garrett Greene is listed ahead of Jalon Daniels on the current depth chart, so one of those two will take the snaps in Green Bay.

Tampa Bay goes into this one 0–3, with the offense already operating short-handed. Emeka Egbuka is available, but Jalen McMillan is on injured reserve and won't be back for at least four games. Rakeem Nunez-Roches is questionable on the defensive side, which is its own concern given how thin the interior rotation already is. Rueben Bain Jr. is also out, so the defensive line depth the team was counting on this season remains largely theoretical.

The organization spent the better part of last spring and summer rebuilding continuity — Mayfield's extension, the receiving corps, the defensive line retooling after Pat O'Connor's retirement. None of that work is undone by a thumb injury, but it doesn't help that the team is burning through its early schedule without its franchise quarterback. The next few weeks will tell us how much of that offseason investment was structural and how much of it was just Mayfield.
