Mayfield Is Back at Practice
Baker Mayfield returned to practice this week, roughly a month after dislocating his right thumb against Minnesota in Week 3. It's the first concrete sign that the Buccaneers' quarterback situation may be approaching something resembling normal.
Jalon Daniels has handled the job in his absence — the undrafted rookie went 683 passing yards, four touchdowns, and five interceptions across six games, including the 24–16 win over Dallas that snapped the early skid. That win bought some goodwill, but Tampa Bay is 1–5 and 2.5 games out of the last wild card spot with 11 games left. The math still works, barely, but not with Daniels running the offense indefinitely.
Returning to practice is not the same as returning to the field. No timetable has been confirmed, and a dislocated thumb on a throwing hand is the kind of injury that can linger in ways that don't show up on a practice report. Worth watching, not worth projecting.
