Mahomes is cleared, the receivers aren't

Patrick Mahomes got his full clearance for camp last week. Xavier Worthy and Cyrus Allen are both Questionable. That's the situation in Kansas City right now, and it's a strange one — the quarterback question resolved itself, and the questions just moved down the depth chart.

Worthy caught 42 passes for 532 yards last season in 14 games, which made him one of the more reliable pieces of an offense that needed reliable pieces badly. Allen was the early camp buzz story, a rookie making enough noise that people were paying attention. Now both are day-to-day, and this is the fourth time in roughly as many days I've had reason to write about this receiver room. That frequency is the story.

Travis Kelce is healthy, and Hollywood Brown played 16 games last year, so it's not as if the cupboard is bare. But the Chiefs went 6-11 in 2025 with an offense that was largely intact and a quarterback who played only 14 games. The margin for disruption here is thin. Mahomes coming back healthy was the one thing that was supposed to go right this offseason. So far it has. Everything adjacent to it has been messier.
