Love Back at Practice, and the Safety Picture Clears a Little

Julian Love is listed questionable, but he's practicing — and after a week where I was writing about the safety position being a genuine problem heading into Washington, that's meaningful movement in the right direction. Love has been one of Seattle's more reliable defensive contributors this season, and his absence had left the backend thin at a position that was already managing Nick Emmanwori's workload carefully following ankle surgery.

The injury report still has some names on it — Ty Okada is also questionable — so this isn't a full bill of health back there. But Love returning to practice at least gives the coaching staff options they didn't have a few days ago. Whether he plays a full snap count or comes back in a limited role, his presence changes the math on how Seattle can deploy its safeties against Washington.

Emmanwori's status continues to be the bigger, longer-running question for this defense, and that hasn't changed. But for the moment, Love practicing is the kind of small, quiet good news a defending champion needs when it's been managing bodies through the early weeks of the season.
