Lawrence and Thomas Are In. The Line Question Isn't Going Away.
The inactives are out, and the good news is real: Brian Thomas Jr., who spent the week questionable, is active for Sunday's game in Denver. So is Jakobi Meyers. Trevor Lawrence, Brenton Strange, Chris Rodriguez Jr. — the core of what Jacksonville built last season is on the field today. For a team that spent August watching its roster erode piece by piece, getting to Week 2 with its weapons intact is not nothing.
But Patrick Mekari is still on Injured Reserve, and that hasn't changed since his back surgery in August. The front office moved quickly when that happened — acquiring Daniel Faalele from the Giants to shore up the guard spot — and Faalele is active today. That's the floor they've been working with. Robert Hainsey is questionable heading into the game, which keeps the line's durability question open rather than resolved.
The Jaguars won 13 games last season behind Lawrence throwing for 4,214 yards and 32 touchdowns, and the offensive skill positions look capable of producing at that level again. The concern has never been the names on the outside. It's been whether the people protecting Lawrence can stay healthy long enough to let those names matter. Today they get a test against a Denver defense without R.J. Harvey in the backfield — a small break, but one they'll take.
