Iorio, the Former Canadiens Forward, and a Roster That's About as Set as It's Going to Get
Two signings on August 21 — Vincent Iorio on a one-year deal and a former Canadiens forward the coverage has been calling a potential steal — and the Rangers are more or less done. After a summer that touched every part of the roster, these feel like the last pieces dropped into place before training camp opens.
Iorio's path here is straightforward enough: he got a midseason look, the organization liked what it saw, and they brought him back on a one-year deal. The former Canadiens forward is the quieter add, a depth move that could pay off or could simply fill a spot. Neither signing changes the architecture of what the Rangers built this summer — the Dorofeyev acquisition, the Korpisalo trade, the blue-line work with Morrow, Schneider, and Trudeau — but they do close out the checklist.
The one item that remains genuinely open is Matt Rempe, still on injured reserve with no update. That's not a depth question; it's a roster construction question that only gets answered when camp starts. Everything else the Rangers set out to address this offseason has been addressed.
