Hurts is active, Smith is questionable, and the names behind her on the depth chart are Britain Covey and Xavier Gipson
DeVonta Smith's status for this week is still up in the air, and that's the whole story right now. Goedert is gone. A.J. Brown was traded before the season. Smith missing Wednesday's practice puts the Eagles in a position where Hurts would be throwing to a receiving room that, at its deepest, runs through Dontayvion Wicks, Elijah Moore, and a pair of returners-turned-receivers in Covey and Gipson. That's not a receiving corps built to sustain a passing offense — it's a contingency plan that was never supposed to be the plan.
What makes this harder is that Smith has been the load-bearing wall all season. She absorbed the targets that Brown used to command, and the offense has leaned on that connection in a way that leaves almost nothing behind if she can't go. Hurts can manufacture yards with his legs — 435 rushing yards last season is a real number — but the Eagles can't run-game their way through a full schedule, and defenses know it.
The next few days of practice reports will matter more than usual. If Smith is limited again Thursday, this becomes a genuine game-plan problem, not just a depth chart inconvenience.
