Hall Practiced. He Might Not Play. Allen Gets the Ball Either Way.
Breece Hall returned to practice this week, which is progress from where he's been — but the quad injury that has kept him out of the last three games could still sideline him against Miami. The Jets made roster moves ahead of the Dolphins game, and the backfield situation remains unsettled heading into the weekend.
If Hall sits again, Braelon Allen carries the load. Allen has 362 rushing yards and three touchdowns across eight games, which is a reasonable body of work for a backup asked to start. He's been functional. The question against Miami is whether functional is enough, and the road record — 1-3 this season — suggests the Jets haven't found an answer to that yet.
Hall has appeared in just four games, rushing for 179 yards with a touchdown. The groin strain from August complicated his early season, and now the quad has cost him three more weeks. At some point the backfield depth chart stops being a rotation and starts being a concern. The Jets are two games out of the last wild card with 11 to play. They need Hall healthy more than they need him available for a single Sunday.
