Hall Goes Down in Detroit, and the Jets' Backfield Depth Chart Is Now a Real Concern
Breece Hall picked up a thigh injury in Sunday's loss to Detroit, and it's the kind of news this offense did not have room for. Hall has been the one constant on that side of the ball — he carried this team through a 3–14 disaster last year, topping 1,000 rushing yards despite everything falling apart around him. Losing him for any stretch of time, even briefly, changes the math considerably for Geno Smith's first weeks running this offense.
The depth behind Hall is Isaiah Davis and Braelon Allen. Davis has been a reliable enough backup — he logged carries in all 16 games last season — but he's a complementary piece, not a featured back. Allen has barely played. That's the chart the Jets are working with if Hall misses time, and it's thin.
Worth noting: Hall came into this season already having navigated a non-contact groin strain in August. He stayed healthy enough for Week 1, which was a relief at the time. A thigh injury in Week 3 raises the question of whether he's been carrying more load than the offense can sustain right now, particularly with Mason Taylor out and the receiving corps still sorting itself out.
No severity update on Hall yet. The Jets have a short week to figure out what they have.
