Green Bay signs Jack Dingle, adding a body to a linebacker room that badly needed one.
The Packers signed linebacker Jack Dingle on Tuesday, a straightforward addition to a position that has been anything but. Green Bay's linebacker depth was already a concern before Cooper's Achilles tear — Zaire Franklin is the clear starter, and Kristian Welch has handled a fraction of the snaps behind him. There isn't much else there.
Dingle doesn't arrive with a résumé that changes the room's ceiling. This is depth work, the kind of signing you make when the alternative is suiting up two linebackers and hoping nothing goes wrong. Whether he sticks or simply pushes the competition is the question worth watching over the next week or two.
The need is real and grounded. Green Bay has only two linebackers with meaningful playing time on the depth chart, and the drop from Franklin to anyone behind him is steep. Dingle is at least another name on the board.
