Green Bay's secondary situation, still waiting for something to change
I've written this note four times now, and the situation hasn't moved. Micah Parsons is on the PUP list, targeting a Week 6 return against Dallas at the earliest. Javon Bullard's foot is a day-to-day thing that hasn't resolved. The Packers worked out three safeties last week and still have only five healthy safeties and slot defenders available in camp. Nothing new to report.
The preseason game against Pittsburgh is coming up, which means these guys in the secondary — Shemar Bartholomew, Domani Jackson, Benjamin St-Juste, Carrington Valentine, Trey Dean — are about to get their first real test. Valentine is listed as questionable. That's the group right now.
The front office has done what it can on the margins. The Wyatt extension and the McDuffie deal shore up the front seven, and there's real optimism around what that unit can do. But the secondary is what it is heading into the season, and the first five weeks are going to tell us a lot about whether this defense can hold together while it waits for Parsons to come back. Nothing to add until something actually changes.
