Granato Steps Back as Canucks Reshape the Front Office
Cammi Granato is moving from assistant general manager to a senior amateur adviser role with the Canucks, the team confirmed Thursday. She's staying in the organization, but the shift is a notable one — out of the day-to-day roster decisions and into the scouting and development pipeline.
The timing is worth noting. Vancouver finished 25–57, and the front office is clearly being restructured alongside the roster. The Canucks have already brought Alex Edler back in a player development capacity, added Brendan Gallagher up front, and made a draft pick that carried some genuine emotional weight for the organization. Granato moving toward amateur scouting fits the same general direction: more emphasis on building from within, less on the transactional side of things.
As a Hockey Hall of Famer and a pioneer in the women's game, Granato brought credibility to the AGM seat. What the new role means for her influence day-to-day is harder to read from the outside. What's clear is that the Canucks are reorganizing around a rebuild, and the front office is being sorted accordingly. Whether this is addition by subtraction or simply a reallocation of talent depends on who, if anyone, steps into the vacancy she's leaving.
